#47 Kreivo, Substrate meets Matrix and creative hardware wallet
Feliz año nuevo! 🎆 I'm Daniel(olanod), I'm a Senior ambassador, an independent humble fellow and creator of the Local Incentives Protocol of the Virto Network. My team and I have been building on Polkadot for more than a two of years different libraries and tools thanks to you all KSM and DOT holders ❤️ Notably Sube/Scales, orml-payments, libwallet and recently concluding our proof of concept Fido "the Web3 companion". Said developments haven't been random, they are all part of a common theme, being very lightweight, simple, memory efficient and WebAssembly firendly so they can run everywhere, this aids in our long term vision to really bringing blockchain technology to the masses, specially empowering regular users in areas where digitization and technology penetration is low and people might have never heard the word blockchain. LIP as a token-less blockchain protocol and as a mean to drive positive long term economic growth in local communities surely is Virto team's highlight, but it's not where most of our development efforts lie at the moment. Before rushing out a blockchain with no utility into existence we want to focus on use cases and trying out different forms of user interaction that result familiar and intuitive to the broad audience. We have been laying down the foundations of a technology stack we believe can tackle the many issues the industry is facing to attract mass adoption without compromising decentralization, trying to make the technology extremely accessible, simple to use, cheap and overall remove as many entry barriers as possible, such as: Abstract blockchain protocols. The average Moe doesn't care about them. Hide away cryptography. i.e. say goodbye to seed phrases. Be familiar. Metaverses, NFTs, Staking, etc. are cool new concepts but intimidating for the 99% of non-crypto savvy population which is our focus(let's first grow the pie!). Speak our users language. Avoid new jargon and words that need explanation. Universal and cheap, don't assume everyone has capable smartphone, knows how to install a browser extension or has good(or any?) internet connectivity. Fear of the unknown. Regardless of the intrinsic security of blockchain, trusting your life's savings to new technology is scary. The good news is said limitations can be solved without spending huge amounts of effort designing new untested protocols, with Matrix, a decentralized communications protocol very aligned with the Web3 ethos, we are building different solutions to integrate it with Substrate to tackle the problems at hand, this initiative we call it Summa(Substrate Meets Matrix) and will be the main focus of development of the Virto team as it serves as the engine driving our user facing technology and other creative efforts like Fido-v2(a.k.a FiDOS) an operating system/personal assistant that can live anywhere between your personal cloud, your phone or even a small piece of hardware like a key ring you are allowed to lose. Thanks to the support of the Kusama and Polkadot community we have come a long way but we can go much further. This time we want to ask for you to support the team once more so we can keep developing the many tools and protocols we think will greatly benefit the ecosystem in the long term in a more sustainable way, instead of developing short-lived isolated projects that make it hard to keep together a very capable team. We are ready to bring some fun chaos to the network 🐦 With the creative nature and experimental state of our technology we think Kusama will be the perfect ground to give Virto initiatives a test drive and try out the the next iterations of our stack and hardware prototypes. Projects summary With the requested funds at an average of 25USD/KSM, for the next ~9 months the Virto team(~10 people) will be able to create/keep developing Summa: A lightweight, single binary, easy to deploy, multi-chain-capable full/light node based on smoldot(as Sube backend) fused with a Matrix homeserver with a built-in appservice extensible with WASM plugins 🤯 It serves as personal cloud and easy entry point for users to the ecosystem, users only need simple WebAuthN authentication, can make use of encrypted communications, multi device set ups with multiparty signature support, standardized secure storage for account backups and other secrets plus many more functionalities when installing different plugins that can turn your node into a decentralized notification system or the home of Fido your personal bot assistant that can sign transactions on your behalf. Summa pallet: tighter integration with Substrate to take on-chain actions based on Matrix events, control Matrix rooms/communities on-chain and seamlessly use Matrix accounts and devices with Substrate chains. Valor: Virto's async lightweight open runtime, the plugin system and developer platform that powers Summa, Fido's web super app and hardware wallets. Hardware prototyping: a limited edition handcrafted wood-leather key ring prototype of a hardware wallet you can lose. They are effectively Matrix clients that also include Valor's WASM plugin capabilities and an experimental proof of location system based on LoRa(long range) technology. Expect blueprints, DIY guide and a give away of the initial units. Kreivo Parathread: The tokenless sister chain of Virto Network for payments of real-world products and services that empowers local communities with its tax collection system. If it doesn't find a home as "common good-ish" parachain we would wait for Parathreads support to be available. SwapCash: An initial use-case of a real world marketplace for decentralized on&off-ramps. The Federation: A Fellowship-like collective for Kusama(and later Polkadot's Collectives chain?), its an extract of the Local Incentives Protocol that attempts to bring the ambassador program on-chain and turn its members into local leaders that can better represent the interests of KSM/DOT holders. Last but not least the further maintenance and development of Sube, Scales, Libwallet, Fido and other related projects that need constant improvements. ⚠️ Within the time frame we will be able to take our proof of concept technology to a more mature and usable state but beware that it won't likely be production ready.

Encointer
I just want to add some helpful context here for the community after remembering that Encointer recently received funds, especially since some of you might be asking "why does Encointer need more money if they just received some?"
First, Encointer's Q4 funds suffered significant losses after financial realization in their last couple of grants (~$130k). Based on their speedy update of the situation, it's my opinion that the team acted prudently and promptly with their funds. So this Gov2 spend will help recoup these losses.
Second, this Gov2 spend is to fund the first two quarters of their lease up front. This will give the team a lot more autonomy to build/ improve their protocol and dApps. I've worked with the team directly and they are very responsive and have a very good understanding of the technology and its needed direction. I think these funds will be used very well.
Lastly, it is quite expensive to maintain a parachain let alone improve upon one. The community has shown its support for continuing the Encointer parachain by permitting it another common-good lease, but that's only half the battle. We must proactively fund this project if we expect to see it deliver.
That said, I'm completely in favor of this!
Cheers,
Adam
